Your Favorite Black-Owned Business Shouldn't Be a Hidden Gem Forever

We've all heard somebody say, "Put me on!" when we discover a new restaurant, boutique, hairstylist, photographer, or local brand.

And when we find a good one? We tell everybody we know.

Word-of-mouth has always been powerful in our communities. One recommendation can turn into a new customer, a repeat client, or the beginning of a business relationship. But too many talented entrepreneurs are still waiting to be discovered.

Running a business is already a lot of work. Now add creating content, keeping up with algorithms, competing for attention, and trying to turn views into actual customers.

Being good at what you do should matter. But people also have to be able to find you.

That's why community-driven discovery matters. Imagine finding a Black-owned business through a local recommendation, connecting directly with its owner, and sharing it with somebody who has been looking for exactly what they offer.

Supporting Black businesses doesn't always mean making a purchase. It can mean sharing a post, leaving an honest review, referring a friend, attending an event, or simply making an introduction.

And if you're a business owner, don't underestimate the value of being visible in your own community. People can't support what they never get the chance to discover.

On Us is being built to help bring people, businesses, and opportunities closer together, including through spaces dedicated to discovery and local connections.

So the next time you find a business you love, don't keep the secret to yourself.

PUT SOMEBODY ON. You never know what that one connection could mean for someone's business.

On Us is a Black-centered community platform built to connect people, culture, creativity, businesses, and resources. Everyone who respects the purpose of the space is welcome to participate.

Free for community members.
